UC MERCED SEEKS Health Science Career Day SPONSORSI am writing to ask if the Rotary club from any cities between Stockton and Madera would like to donate funds to help UC Merced and participating Central valley community colleges bus in high school students to our Health Science Career Day held on September 17th from 9am - 4pm. We are looking for someone to help pay for the buses that will bring students from the high schools to the event site and then back to the high schools. The event will be held at the Technology and Science Building on the Castle Air force Base in Atwater, California. Students in grades 9-12 from every high school in Madera, Merced, Tuolumne, Calaveras, Stanislaus, San Joaquin counties who are interested in learning more about the Health Science field are invited. There will be multiple health career focused workshops on pathways to specific health related fields, admissions, and special guest speakers, as well as booths where valley health related groups, organizations, and schools will set up shop to talk to students. Students will have a chance to ask questions to various people to allow them to learn more about the health related field and how to be successful in that field. UC Merced and its sponsoring community college partners, have sent invitations to 54 high schools from Stockton down to Madera. We don't know as of yet the interest from the high schools and if they are willing to send students, as they are on summer break and we have not had any contact with them. We are currently talking with Superintendents of school districts and counties to inform them of our event. We are planning on having approximately 500 high school students attend the event, but will continue to encourage more to attend. The event will take place in Atwater on the Castle Air Force Base, so the bus costs will be vary depending on the bus origin. Here are the averages from three different bus companies from valley cities to the Atwater facility: Stockton $801 Any amount of funding that you and your organization can provide would be helpful. The students in the Central Valley would benefit greatly from your help. If you are unable to help us fund the transportation, there are many other areas that we could use your assistance in our fundraising efforts. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.
