Rotarians around the world share their culture and appeal for our help. The first letter here tells us about Ramadan, a month of fasting for Muslims worldwide. The next from India seeks a Twin Club as part of the Rotary Centennial program. Two more come from the same Rotarian in Tunisia. He tells us in the first of a Ramadan project, and in the second about wheelchairs, including a donation of 130 chairs from a Sacramento club. Finally, we hear from a Turkish Rotarian who seeks International help for her project

My Dear Rotarian,

As everyone knows that holy month of Ramadan is coming within next few days, and we all know that this month is very spiritual for our Muslim brothers. They have fast in full month and after that month they have there holy festival called "EID". Eid day is very special and spiritual for every Muslim.  But there is a problem that some people cant afford to Celebrate Eid. On this day people wear new cloths and have parties at home. some people are so poor that they cant afford to  have one time meal at home . In this case problem came on children. Children are so sensitive that they don't realize the problem of there parents but feel themselves inferior then other children.  To solve this problem our Club decide to have a project to help such needy person in this holy month. we plan to have a gift pack in which some wheat, sugar, two pair of cloths and some money for there spending on eid days. As per our expectations it will cost us not more then Rs. 1,200/- per pack. which is equivalent to US$21/-, we need support from all our Rotarian friends in this regards so that we can distribute maximum gift packs in this month and can manage to have maximum people to celebrate there holy day of Eid with pleasure. Any Club or Rotarian wants to help us in this project please contact the undersign or Dr. Satti President of our Club at drsattiphd@hotmail.com.

Hi.

I am from Rotary Club, Waltair and a past president of 1985-86 vintage.. We are located in Visakhapatnam, a city of over 1.5 millions on the east coast of India. There are 14 Rotary Clubs in this city, of which we are the second seniormost, having been chartered in 1972. Our club has 65 members, drawn mostly from business and intellectual pursuits. We have been engaged in a wide range of community service activities since our inception and have implemented several major projects in the last 5 years with RF matching grants in the field of eye care (cataract operations) and child health care (medicare for students of municipal schools in slum areas) completing 4,000 eye operations and helping over 18,000 children with free medical screening, medicines and treatment.

We are seeking twin clubs from any part of the world. I can send further particulars to those interested. Can any club consider our request? This relationship is primarily for friendship across the seas.

You may contact my personal e-Mail address if you so desire.

Sincerely

T.V.S. RAO

Dear Rotarians

It is in the tradition of the Rotary Club De Sousse-Tunisia to Help the needy families in the Fasting Month of Ramadan. We give Boxes of Groceries and dairy products to families with low income and we provide food in a place that fits 100 Peoples for the whole month of Ramadan. This Action costs us about 120 to 150 $ / day. This money is partly donated from club members and other we try to collect from donators. If any one can help us with any amount would appreciate. Pls let me know.

Yours In Rotary

Dear Rotarians

The wheelchairs project are always great projects and big success especialy when you see the face of the person you are helping who is looking for a word that is more then thank you, some times the tears of happiness in the faces of the handicaped person who has been going from one place to another sliding on the floor in the dirt to go and sell some small items to support his small family and he/she can not afford to buy a wheelchair. We lived that feeling in the Rotary Club De Sousse - Tunisia. We received in the period 1998 - 1999 from the Rotary Club of Sacramento CA, USA with the help of our late friend a great rotarian Joe Assur from 130 wheelchairs also From the Rotary Club of Glousester (UK) 170 Wheelchairs in the period 2001-2002. All has been distributed in all Tunisia from the north to the south ( some of the pictures are in our web site ) to the persons who does not have support and they need the wheelchair to be able to go out to support a family or to go to study and help him/her self. If you have any questions Pls do not hesitate to contact me.
