The Paul Harris Society

RE:                    THE PAUL HARRIS SOCIETY of DISTRICT 5220

Greetings from Liveable, Loveable, Lodi, CA!

At the first Foundation/Membership Workshop for the year being held in Sonora this weekend, District Governor David Gallagher will be announcing the official kick-off for a new fund-raising program—The Paul Harris Society of District 5220.

The Paul Harris Society is not something new to Rotary because many districts in California have had such a program in place for sometime, but it is new to District 5220.

The purpose of the program is to encourage Rotarians and friends to pledge a minimum of $1,000 per year to The Rotary Foundation. With this, the donor will receive a special metal ribbon that can attached to a Paul Harris pin. The donor will also be able to designate who will be honored by their donation, and if for some reason finances do not allow a donor to continue in the Society, they may withdraw at anytime.

Throughout the years District 5220 has been blessed with a substantial allocation of funds approved for humanitarian projects by The Rotary Foundation Board of Trustees. These funds have been given to us by the generosity of Rotarians from the 529 districts around the world who have also donated to The Rotary Foundation. In fact, we are one of a VERY few districts who have received funds for 3-H Grant projects related to Health, Hunger and Humanity. Since 1990 The Rotary Foundation records indicate that District 5220 has received a total of $1.38 million to be applied to four 3-H Grants and in 2003-2004 alone we received three Major Matching Grants totaling $112,050 and four Matching Grants totaling $113,660.

The Paul Harris Society of District 5220 is one way for us to say “thank you” to The Rotary Foundation for what we have received and to ensure that we will be able to continue working to improve the lives and living conditions of people who are less fortunate within our communities and around the world.

Our District Governor is asking each of us to join him in this fund-raising effort, and is challenging the members of District 5220 to have AT LEAST ONE HUNDRED members in The Paul Harris Society by the end of this first year, in recognition of the Rotary International Centennial. Those individuals and friends who become members of The Paul Harris Society during the 2004-2005 Rotary year will known as “Founders.” In addition, those who join by November 1, 2004, will be invited to attend a “special” Founders Recognition Dinner on Saturday, November 6, 2004.

Please review and distribute the enclosed information and LET’S MAKE IT HAPPEN as we CELEBRATE ROTARY during 2004-2005!!!!

Thanking you in advance for your continued dedication and support!

Yours In Rotary Service,

Phyllis
