A message from RI President Jonathan B. Majiyagbe

In these uncertain economic times, many nonprofit organizations are responding to the reality of diminishing investment returns by identifying new sources of income, including corporate partnerships. In exploring such relationships for Rotary International, we have found that corporations are increasingly reluctant to simply donate money, choosing instead to offer incentive programs that would encourage Rotarians to use their products for the benefit of RI.

In recent weeks, such an agreement was made with the Avery Dennison Corporation. Avery Dennison Corporation, an international office products company, is offering support to the polio eradication effort based on Rotarian participation in a special promotion. In the months ahead, Avery will be donating $5.00 to Rotary's Polio Eradication Fundraising Campaign each time a Rotary member purchases Avery® Clean Edge Business Cards. With Clean Edge Business Cards, you can create professional quality business cards right from your own printer. Look for a live sample in the July issue of Rotarian Magazine. Details of this program are outlined in the attachment to this e-mail.

Corporate partnerships offer exciting new opportunities for Rotarians and Rotary International, but we realize that some Rotarians may question such commercial relationships. To allay any fears, we want to stress that participation in these programs is entirely voluntary and that RI will not provide any contact information to our corporate partners. All contact will be initiated by Rotarians who wish to participate in the programs. RI will keep Rotarians informed on the results of these efforts by providing periodic updates through the RI Web site and other membership publications.

In recent years, RI has responded to Rotarian requests for improved service, especially in the areas of technology and communications. Many of these improvements call for a substantial financial investment at a time when unfavorable investment markets have severely reduced income. By participating in our corporate partnership programs, you can support Rotary International's efforts to strengthen membership, enhance Rotary's public image, improve communications, and further assist club and district leaders in carrying out their challenging tasks.

As club president, you can promote this and future programs within your club by forwarding this e-mail and the attachment to your members and/or distributing information on these new opportunities at your weekly meeting. Your support and participation will guarantee that these programs make significant contributions to polio eradication and the essential work of Rotary International in serving 1.2 million Rotarians in more than 30,000 clubs.
