The Romanian Orphan Choir, on its seventh tour of the United States, has three performances scheduled next week in Modesto: Wednesday 9/3/03 -- 7 p.m., First Church of the Nazarene, 2319 St. Paul's Way. Thursday 9/4/03 -- 7 a.m., Modesto Sunrise Rotary Club & the Rotary Club of Salida Joint Meeting, SOS Club, 819 Sunset Ave. Saturday 9/6/03 -- 7 p.m., Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 1600 Carver Road. All performances are free, though the churches will take offerings to support the choir members' orphanage, Caminul Felix. Also during the programs, the orphanage will be selling crafts made by the children of Caminul Felix. The choir sings in Romanian and English, and presents a broad variety of music: classical, gospel and Romanian folk songs. The name Caminul Felix translates to Happy Home. Children there live in family units with "mothers" and "fathers" in individual houses, rather than in institutional dormitories. Adapted from the Modesto Bee story 8/28/03 |
