Mike Keckler, president of J.M. Keckler Medical Co. Inc. on HiTech Parkway in Oakdale and a member of the Modesto Rotary Club, helps move one of 20 new color ultrasound machines bound for Romania. The machines, worth $1.6 million, are a gift from General Electric to Assist International. A partnership among Keckler Medical, The Rotary Foundation, Assist International, World Vision and General Electric all participated in the project to ship the medical equipment to Romania. The transportation was funded by club contributions plus matching funds from the Rotary Foundation for a total of $25,000.
In addition to the ultrasound machines, 12 pallets of nonperishable food are being sent. Keckler, 59, has traveled the world for 20 years with his wife, Susie, for charitable causes. Previously, local Rotary clubs participated in a three-year program to supply three hospitals in the Philippines.
