Rotary Clubs in District 5220, representing clubs from Galt to Madera in the
Central Valley are sponsoring a contest for
middle school and high school students on Ethical Standards.
Firmly
believing young people are the world’s greatest resources, Rotarians as
professionals and business people have a responsibility to be an influence
for truth, fairness, friendship, and goodness.

Contest Info & Timeline
The contest
will be in the form of an essay on the Rotary 4-Way Test, emphasizing the
values of truthfulness, fairness, goodwill and friendships beneficial to all
concerned.

Guidelines
The contest
is open to middle school students in grades 6-8 and high school students in
grades 9-12. Winners of the competition will read their essays at a regular
club meeting and receive recognition in the form of a
plaque/certificate/other award decided by local clubs. Middle school
competition ends at the club level. The high school winner will move to
competition within each of the 10 areas in the District and the area winner
will move to District wide competition. The high school winner of the
District competition will receive a Rotary plaque and a $500 scholarship.
The high school winner will read their winning essay at the Rotary District
5220’s Annual Conference to be held at John Ascuaga’s Nugget Hotel & Casino
in Sparks, Nevada in April 2004.

Local middle and high school students
will write and submit their essays during October and November. Local club
presidents have received detailed information about the essay contest and
will be forwarding the information to local schools.
