The International Computer Users Fellowship of Rotarians (ICUFR), has the purpose to provide for fellowship among Rotarians, establish and promote electronic/computer communication as a service, and encourage the use of computers in harmony with, and in support of, the work of Rotary International.

Members of Rotary and Rotaract Clubs and their spouses are eligible for membership. There are members from all over the world and the website is published in three different languages. For countries that have a difficult time using credit cards to pay dues, we have a new Associate membership category. In lieu of paying dues, we ask that they donate a the $10 US to a Club or District project.

Meetings at ICUFR are by electronic means as a method of communication, or by in-person conferences. There is an Annual Convention, which is held in different places around the world, such as the United States, Canada and United Kingdom.

The governing body of this fellowship is the Board of Directors, composed of three officers: Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer; and eight directors.

Join the ICUFR

For ten years the ICUFR has been promoting the use of computers and online communications within Rotary. At the same time it has encouraged the fellowship and worldwide contacts that are the bedrock of the Rotary movement.

We were there when district bulletin boards were the cutting edge, we ran our own forum on CompuServe when it was the only global network, and from our Internet committee came the first web site devoted to Rotary.

So what have we done lately?

Here is what the ICUFR offers its members today -

Immediate access to fellow members through a password protected database website: Until further notice, access to the data base is closed. email ccardey@earthlink.net to request a search and I will do it for your. (Carl P. Cardey - Chairman)

Each member receives their own password, which allows them to update their own information and view details of fellow members.

Facility to search members’ profiles to find those with specific interests.

Lists of members by district, country and classification.

State-of-the-art communications centre at ROCC managed by our members for all Rotarians:

  • Powered by software that has received CNET's award as Best Community Software and is used by top sites like Adobe, Apple, CNN, and NY Times.

  • Use a newsreader such as Outlook Express to read and post off line or any web browser. Currently being upgraded to provide integrated e-mail access.

  • Messages can be posted in many languages including Arabic and Japanese.

  • Private sections available for members’ use – contact the sysop.

Friendly, dynamic home page for the fellowship at www.icufr.org,  giving details of the fellowship’s activities and current topics of interest such as virus alerts.

Active mailing lists hosted by Irwin Taranto, and managed by our members for all Rotarians:

rotary@taranto.com - for general Rotary discussions (over 1000 postings in first six months of 2001).

rotachat@taranto.com - for fun and friendship (over 5000 postings in first six months of 2001).

ribi@taranto.com - for members in British Isles and Ireland

Great annual conferences where members can put a face to friends they’ve met online.

Outstanding speakers from the communications industry and from our own members, plus key note speeches from leading Rotarians.

Memorable social events for members and their partners – such as dinner in the House of Commons at the London conference in 2000.
