Webmaster note: In response to a recent earthquake in Peru, Rotary clubs throughout the district contributed to a disaster relief fund for the victims. PDG Bob Bitter of Madera Sunrise took the lead in organizing our local effort, and the Madera clubs served as the lead clubs representing all clubs in the district. The following unedited story was written by PDG Luis Malaga of Peru.

DELIVERS OF AID TO VICTIMS IN ICA, PISCO Y CHINCHA

ROTARY SAN BORJA

Last Sunday 16 of septembre was the second great deliver of aid to the victims of the earthquake of August 15.  In this occasion we worked in joint with the ONGs Hand by hand and Messengers of the Peace of Spain, the organization was in charge of the committee of disasters of the District 4450 presided by Marco Antonio Toratto and the Father Omar Sánchez.

During the previous week to the trip donations from the Channel 7, ONG Hand to Hand and Messengers of the Peace were collected, these donations were transferred to the place that our c.r Marco Toratto assigned in the Av. Presscot.  This work was done by the voluntary youths of the ONG Hand to Hand, who worked every day from 8am to 5 pm., selecting and classifying the donations.  The donations were organized in boxes according to its type and they counted all the articles that we had, so that we could be able to prepare packages that we were going to deliver to the families.  Also we picked up the donations from the Rotary Clubs that were in the Santa Rosa School.

All the donations arrived in this form and it had to be selected grouped to be able to do an inventory of what we had.  We received near 30 tons of provisions, clothes, water, blankets, medicines and other articles.

Thanks to the support of the Mrs. María Jesus Ainsa, the shipping Company Ransa provided a closed truck of 20 tons that would transfer the donations to the City of Ica.  On Saturday 15 of September since 9 am, 10 voluntary Youths of the ONG Hand to hand worked filling the trailer with the provisions, they finished around 3 in the afternoon, then they left to Ica to help in the discharge of the provisions of the trailer.  The youths worked until 3 in the morning and they slept in tents raised in the deposit in the city of Ica.

Due to problems of space and that they couldn’t finished to select the clothes, we couldn’t delivered all the clothes we received, all these clothes that was left will be delivered in a following opportunity.

The RC of San Borja with the help of Rotary clubs of Madera de California prepared 800 packages of school equipment and of personal hygiene, to be carried to the zone of the earthquake.  The youths of Interact of San Borja and the Rotarians worked preparing the packages until 10 pm.
