Wilf Wilkinson, a retired chartered accountant, has been
a Rotarian since 1962. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, he and his wife,
Joan (Hogan) Wilkinson, have lived in Trenton, Ontario, Canada since 1961.
They have four children, all sons, and eight grandchildren.
Wilf was a founding partner of Wilkinson & Company, Chartered
Accountants. And in 1981 was elected a Fellow of the Ontario Institute of
Chartered Accountants and in 1994, he was granted the appellation CFE by the
Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, based in Austin, Texas. He is a Past
Treasurer of both the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and the
Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario and has served as President of the
Public Accountants Council for the Province of
 Ontario. Mr. Wilkinson was the
founding Chairman of the Belleville Cheshire Home for Physically Handicapped
Adults. He has served as Chairman of the Board of Loyalist College and as
President of the District Council of the Boy Scouts of Canada. In 2005 he was
awarded the South Eastern Ontario Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser for his years
of fundraising leadership for local and regional causes.
After retiring from the practice of public accounting in
February 2000, Wilf accepted a position as the part-time Executive Director of
the Quinte Ballet School of Canada.
He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Morris
Industries Ltd., a company that manufactures advanced air seeding and tillage
systems.
President of Rotary International in the 2007-2008 Rotary
year, Wilf has held numerous other Rotary offices. He joined the Rotary Club of
Trenton in 1962, served as Club President in 1967-68, District Governor in
1971-72, Director in 1992-94 and Vice President in 1993-1994. He has also
served as a Trustee of The Rotary Foundation in 1997-2001 and 2002-2003, and
chaired the Convention Committee for the 2005 RI Centennial Convention in
Chicago.
Wilf has served as a Health, Hunger, and Humanity Program
volunteer to India and has visited that country for Rotary on seven occasions.
He has also had Rotary assignments in Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Namibia and
Pakistan, as well as the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and
many parts of the United States and Canada. In 1997, he participated in the
National Immunization Days in Kenya and Tanzania, and in 1999 in the slums of
New Delhi, India. In March 2002, he administered polio drops to the children of
Afghan refugees in Pakistan as part of the Pakistan Afghan Refugee Project of
2001-2004.
He has been
recognized for his professional and humanitarian service by a wide variety of
organizations, including the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, the
Knights of Columbus, the Province of Ontario, the government of Canada and was
honored by Pope John Paul II with the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice medal in 2001.
He is also the recipient of many of Rotary’s honors, including the Citation for
Meritorious Service in 2001, the International Service Award for a Polio-free
World in 2002, the Distinguished Service Award in 2003 and Service Above Self in
